Another Company Down.
Well a few months ago, I was complaining about my current hosting providers support, and how i felt they must be tanking at the lack of response and support i was getting. Well, Unfortunatly i was correct. Phenominet, a hosting company that i would concider a small operation, is closing their doors and filling for bankruptcy. I had hosted my site with them for almost the entire time of their existance. Never had downtime, never had a problem until about 4 months ago…
I went ahead and switched off of them seamlessly… and it was a good thing i did it when i did. As this was is a snippet of the email i received this morning:
Phenominet is going out of business, and filing bankruptcy.
There are several factors for this, the primary two being the current economy and the loss (through death, grave illness, and relocation) of several key personal.
We will be keeping your site up as long we can, but cannot guarantee any length of time, so it is important you begin moving your site(s) as soon as possible so you don’t experience downtime.
Goodluck to them, they were a great provider when i was with them.

I wish they had bothered to contact me and my clients. We collectively lost years of work. They were good ten years ago, and I was happy to bring them plenty of customers, but the way they went out is shameful.

I agree. I loved them.. Great value and great service… up until Summer 2008. I am currently looking into how I can get my domain name back and access to use it somewhere else… If I can’t get to my files, fine. But I cannot get access to my domain name! The OpenSRS Management resulted in an error message for me. If anyone can help me with this, please contact.. It would be MUCH appreciated! I pay for my college education with this website/business

You still own the domain name, If phenominet registered the domain on your behalf they still left your information as the Domain Owner and Administrator. They were a reseller of with tucows, and you can call them with your concerns.

I too was a member with Phenominet. Mike, do you have any recommendation for another company for webhosting?
Appreciate any advice.
Best regards,

I switched to Go Daddy after Phenominet went under. Media Temple is also an excellent hosting company, a little more pricey though.
